 Welcome

We’re thrilled to introduce our latest venture: the Pines to Pasture Project! This land restoration initiative aims to transform a former forestry block back into vibrant pasture and native bush.

Nestled at the end of Lyttelton Harbour, the Head of the Bay is home to the 40-hectare Repose Land Restoration Project. With breathtaking views of the harbour to the north and Mt Bradley to the south, we knew this was the perfect location to transform into a space we could share with our Repose community.

Background

In late 2023, Repose acquired the property with a vision that goes beyond environmental restoration. Our goal is to regenerate this former forestry block, bringing it back to the vibrant, thriving landscape it once was. Along the way, we will document our trials and triumphs, sharing the challenges we face, the solutions we discover, and the progress we make. Through this process, we hope to provide insights and inspiration to others pursuing similar restoration efforts, fostering a deeper understanding of what it takes to restore ecosystems and rebuild connections between people and the land.

The Plan

Our initial plan focuses on clearing invasive species and removing slash piles to create space for native tree species to thrive. By eliminating these non-native plants and accumulated debris, we aim to restore the natural balance and give native flora the best chance to re-establish. This approach aligns with our commitment to promoting biodiversity by fostering an environment where a variety of plant and animal species can coexist and flourish. Additionally, supporting native vegetation plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, as it provides essential habitat and food sources for local wildlife, encourages soil stability, and improves water retention within the landscape.

A Place To Share
