Build Diary: Repose Cabin 2
For the second cabin build we where lucky enough have have family friends lend us some space on their property just out of New Plymouth. Having already done this once we got organised early and have the Bay Engineering trailer, Steel Framing Solutions framing and flooring ply and fixings from Placemakers all with us ready to go.
Our second cabin is basically the same design as our first with a few minor changes to solve issues we ran into the first time around that added extra time to the build.
With a new technique learnt from Angus on lining up the roofing iron screws we managed to get the roof on in a few hours compared with the whole day it took us the first time.
We decided to clad the cabin in Shadow Clad and of course have the Corten steel REPOSE lettering to the right of the front door.
Jacks 80 series parked up in front of a now water tight cabin! For the internal layout we went for the same size bathroom as our first cabin however this time we decided to do the floor in tiles in a herringbone pattern. For the flooring for the main room we went with the pine strips again. Thanks to Ryan for lending us his Brad gun to make quick work of this.
Our grandad George or to us Poppa, leant a hand bogging the hundreds of screw holes in the lining. Great to be able to work side by side and enjoy a cup of tea and some of Nanna baking at smoko.
Max’s Hilux with a special delivery this morning, the beautiful Roaring Med fire place. This was a no brainer for us, we wouldn’t build a cabin without including one of these fire places in it.
With the fire place installed the last thing to do was the kitchen. Our uncle Jeff from Xcel Joinery built this for us on very short notice, so a massive thanks to him! We are really happy with how it turned out!
With the cabin built and a home in Martinborough lined up for it, all that was left to do was tow it down and set it up on site. The Repose x Martinborough Grove Stay is now live on AirBnb, go check it out!
